His aunt doesn't have a stable job and has three of her own children to support. Her mother had to quit her job in order to support a new baby. Her family lived in a small rented room. Chansocheata has expressed a desire to go to school, but her family was too poor to afford her the opportunity. Her family sometimes can't afford to pay their rent. With the help of a sponsor, we will be able to provide a safe place for her with warm love and the best care, and she will be able to receive an education with the hope of obtaining a good job in the future.

One of Chamroeun's sisters has dropped out of school since grade 3 and is now working as a garment worker in a factory. His two other sisters, as well as one of his brothers are now living with other families. Chamroeun did not go to school regularly, because he was needed at home to do chores and to look after his younger sister. Because of these difficult circumstances, he was referred to FLOW by his older sister, so that he would be taken care of and given educational opportunities. At FLOW, with the help of a sponsor, he will study hard with the hope of obtaining a good job in the future, to break the cycle of poverty in his family.

Prior to coming to FLOW, Simon had been living with his crippled grandma and three other siblings. Simon was living in very bad conditions because his family could not afford to get enough food for him to eat. One of Simon's older sisters and one of his older brothers have never been to school, another older sister left to look for work in Malaysia and has never contacted the family since. His other two older sisters are now working in garment factories, and one of his older brothers became a monk. After witnessing his serious living conditions, the Department of Social Affairs asked FLOW to take Simon, as well as his older brother and sister, into FLOW to be taken care of and receive an education. Simon and his two other siblings are now enjoying their lives at FLOW. The support of a foster parent would be extremely beneficial.

Prior to coming to FLOW, Sovankongkea was living with his 75 year old grandma, who is jobless. Had Sovankongkea stayed with his family, his education would not be stable like his sister and brother. Because of these difficult circumstances, he was referred to FLOW along with his younger sister, Sreynich, to be taken care of and for the educational opportunities. We are so happy to have Ponleu join us at FLO where she'll have a safe environment to grow up in and have educational opportunities that would not have been available to her in her province. Comments: None of the children have regularly attended school because they are needed at home to earn a little extra money by tending other villagers' livestock and have many chores to do around the house. Of all the children, only Mong expressed a desire to live and learn at FLO. Mong hopes that in the future he can get a good job and help support his family. In addition, the teachers at Pheara's school would often not show up to work for large periods of time. Despite all these hardships, Pheara maintains a great attitude and outlook on life.

Family Status: Piseth came to FLO from Kampong Speu Province where he lived with his older brother and sister. His mother had been working in Phnom Penh, so Piseth did not have the opportunity to grow up with her in the household.
Both his older brother and sister were forced to leave school at a young age due to financial concerns. Now, one works in the rice fields and the other works in a factory in order to make ends meet. Unfortunately, without FLO, Piseth would not have had an opportunity to get an education. The family was too poor to send him to school, so Piseth spent his days working on household chores.

Comments: In order for Channak to get an education and have a steady place to live, she came to FLO along with one of her brothers, Sam Piseth, and one of her sisters, Sam Reaksmey. Her older brother and sister were forced to drop out of school at a young age and get jobs in order to help the family. When Channak was living at the house in Phnom Penh she was unable to attend school due to her responsibilities helping the family around the house. Before coming to FLO, Sopheara was living with his aunt and uncle. He missed school one year in 2010 because his aunt and uncle could not afford to send him to school.
